Having fun playing and stitching in circles
This workshop is to let yourself free to experiment with stitch and texture a time to experiment with threads and fabrics.
The workshop can be done using hand stitch and or machine stitching.
A background will be prepared by patching and or weaving remnants of fabrics to make an interesting surface to work with and add to.
We will then discuss a variety of stitches and surface textures to form a pattern of curved shapes Stitches can be a combination of machine and hand you might want to use applique methods, coiling and couching all ideas will be open for discussion, even maybe the odd Suffolk puff.
Equipment
Sewing machine with a standard straight stitch foot and a machine embroidery foot.
Machine embroidery frame if you like using them, extension lead
Sewing kit usual hand stitching kit, scissors etc.
Background fabrics can be new or old remnants of cloth, you can add pieces of lace or ribbon . A neutral or tonal palette works well. Enough to do an approximate 12×12 inches square all similar oblong 8 x14 inches
When choosing your fabrics please test that a hand needle and thread can easily go through the fabric, some woven fabrics are hard to hand stitch.
A fine lightweight calico or similar about quarter of a metre.
Hand threads in colours you would like to work with in a variety of thickness for stitching and couching
Machine threads in colours you would like to work with plus a neutral or tonal colour to secure the background fabrics.
Optional extras
Couching threads which could be soft strings, garden twine, dishcloth cotton
Buttons or other small round objects which can be incorporated into the piece of work e.g washers, curtain rings,
N.B. You might want to add in a pencil and some white cartridge paper
All electrical equipment eg sewing machine must have a current PAT test

We occasionally have a waiting list for a workshop and if that is the case your place would be offered to the next person on the list. If there isn’t a waiting list then you might know someone who could take your place.
