Angela Oswald – Workshop – “The Winter Landscape – Trees”

This time of year we are aware of all the different shapes bare trees have against a winter sky so let’s take advantage of them

This is a mixed media workshop where we will be loosely painting our backgrounds (don’t be put off by painting it will be fun to do )then experimenting with different ways to depict winter trees in a landscape. This work lends itself to free machine embroidery but can also be interpreted in hand stitch or a mixture of both. For stitch inspiration  look at Lesley Richmond, Fiona Robertson, Patricia Kelly’s windswept trees. For mood/colour  inspiration look at Helen Terry and photographer Mark Munroe-Preston. You might have a photograph of a winter tree you wish to use

Equipment list
Sewing machine which drops the feed dogs, extension cable
You might want to use a sewing frame/ring
Basic hand sewing kit ,scissors
A mixture of threads hand and/or machine based on a colour scheme of your choice
If you have them small selection of Acrylic paints  or koh-i-nor ink pallet,
Paint brushes, water pot, paint pallet can be old plate
Pencil HB and if you have then basic colouring  pencil’s
Table cover and you might want an apron

*Background fabrics for painting and stitching I will provide at a small cost, I will also have the paints and pencils if you have none

Please bring your own lunch.  There will be tea / coffee and biscuits provided.
NB.  All electrical equipment you bring to the workshop, MUST have a current PAT certificate.
