Catherine Hill – Talk – A Way with Words

Hand embroidered text forms the foundation of all Catherine’s work. Using cotton cloth, vintage Sylko threads and traditional embroidery techniques she documents memories and Lancashire’s social history. Catherine composes the narratives then stitches them.

In this talk, Catherine shares her journey into textiles and explains the stories behind her artwork.

About Catherine

Catherine Hill is a multi-award-winning contemporary textile artist and wordsmith. Her work explores landscape, social history and her own memories of growing up in Lancashire in the 1970’s. Catherine combines cloth and vintage Sylko threads to create her hand embroidered artworks. Catherine is probably best known for her hand embroidered text. She composes the narratives then stitches them. Catherine is an exhibiting member of Prism Textiles and has work in a permanent collection at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
