Jann Thorpe – Workshop – Coiled bowls and decorations

Come and have fun making coiled rope bowls and scrap bowls. From plain cotton rope to silk wrapped fancy bowls, single colour delicate thread bowls to full colour scrap bowls. The techniques will be demonstrated and explained and you can make your own style, shape and size of bowls. Warning – these are addictive but make wonderful presents!!!

Jann is an experienced designer, teacher, workshop leader and exhibiting textile artist. She will bring samples of the bowls so you can see what the possibilities are and take inspiration from them.

Equipment and Materials
Sewing machine that can do zigzag stitch for the coil bowls and free motion stitch for the scrap bowls. (You do not need to be skilled at free machine work)
Bobbins and spare needles
Zigzag foot and free motion foot for the machine
Quilting clips if you have them
Thread – any colour or weight as long as it will go in your machine
Scissors (and snips if you have them)
Embroidery hoop any size – some will be provided if you do not have one

Scrap material
This can be any shape or size. You can bring a variety of colours or decide on a restricted colour palette. A handful or small bagful, cut offs from dress making or bits you can find from old projects – there will be some extra provided

Scrap thread
If you keep all the scrap ends of thread that you cut off when sewing this is a perfect way of using them. However, I will also be provide this.

Jann will provide a £5 kit payable on the day, which will include the specific rope required along with silk and cotton fabric for wrapping the rope and dissolvable fabric for the scrap bowls.

Please bring your own lunch.  There will be tea / coffee and biscuits provided.
NB.  All electrical equipment you bring to the workshop, MUST have a current PAT certificate.
