About the Speaker
Linda spent her childhood drawing and making things. She learnt how to use a hand cranked sewing machine when she was very young and loved the rhythm of its stitching. Growing up in historical Hastings she was intrigued by the Bayeux Tapestry with its stitched story telling.
After studying printed textiles at Winchester School of Art she combined both her love of drawing and machine stitch to make machine embroideries on a splendid electric sewing machine and in 1989 she set up her studio practice. Now working from the Sorting Office Studios in Eastleigh, Hampshire, Linda continues to makes her one-off, Machine Embroideries using her distinctive, unique style. Her colourful, naïve, and narrative embroideries contain figures and animals set in the outdoors all with their own stories to tell.
Her work is successfully exhibited and held in public and private collections such as those of the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Arts Council Southeast, she is the author of two books “Creative Machine Embroidery published by A&C Black and “Stitched Pictures “published by Crowood Books as well as being featured in many textile and lifestyle magazines she has also appeared on Kirstie’s Handmade Britain.
