DESCRIPTION:Emily Notman – Mixed media meadows\nEmbroidered Wreaths\nThursday 17th October 2024\, 10am – 4pm \nMaterial requirements\nThis is a hand stitching workshop. \nParticipants to bring:\nUsual sewing kit – fabric / thread scissors\nAny special materials to make the wreath personal eg lace\, buttons.\nIt is advised to wear old clothes or bring an apron. \nEquipment / materials supplied by the tutor:\nFabric\, needles\, mesh\, airdry clay\, plastic sheets\, paint and bowls.\nThere is no charge for tutor materials \nAbout the Artist\n” I create bespoke textiles mixing media and building up tactile delicate surfaces. I work and rework my pieces with paint\, dyes\, bleach and ink\, burning and layering until finishing it with hand stitch. I find beauty in flaky walls\, overgrown buildings and encrusted surfaces; this is something I recreate in my work.”\nhttp://www.emilynotman.co.uk/ \nThe Workshop\nCreate a bespoke hand embroidered wreath. During the workshop you will create your own embellishments and buttons before colouring your base fabrics. You will then begin to build your wreath with hand stitch and texture. DESCRIPTION:Talk\nIn her presentation\, Sara will talk about her recent work featuring free-motion machine lettering. \nAbout the Speaker\nSara is a former journalist\, she has been stitching text on to her quilts for 20 years\, using the textile surface to explore social\, political and personal issues\, sometimes with a dash of humour.  Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is included in several museum collections\, including the V&A and the International Quilt Museum in the US.  Her book “Text in Textile Art” was published in 2013 and Sara is a selected member of the pan-European group Quilt Art.\nhttp://www.saraimpey.com \n
