DESCRIPTION:In her talk\, Batool will show how she transforms her materials into artists books and mixed media wall pieces\, using different techniques and processes to explore issues of identity\, struggle and rise of women and displacement. \nAbout the Artist\n \nBatool Showghi was born in Iran and moved to England in 1985. Received a merit for MA in Design & Media Arts from the University of Westminster in 1997 just after finishing her BA honors. Worked as a part time lecturer until 2016. \nHer work can be found at: The Tate Britain\, British Library\, The Royal Navy Museum in Portsmouth\, the Museum of Art and Literature\, Yerevan\, Armenia\, Middlesex University\, Thames Valley and Canterbury University\, and in many private collections. Batool’s artwork is regularly exhibited at the Jaggedart gallery in London. SUMMARY:Batool Showghi - ZOOM Workshop - Designing and making a concertina book or a functional textile piece.
DESCRIPTION:Using a variety of materials – eg. paper\, fabric\, photographs\, leaves\, colour pencils – participants will create small pieces of imagery and stitch into them.  The finished article can be a concertina book\, or a small art piece.\nMaterials and equipment\nParticipants can pre prepare the “canvas” as a concertina book prior to the workshop.  Instructions for this are here …. DESCRIPTION:Description\nDuring the talk Julie will look at coloring fabric\, spontaneous stitching\, Stitch books\, hand\, and freestyle machine stitching. \nThere will be stitch books and other mixed media makes for sale. \nAbout the artist\n“I have a lifelong love of creativity; my skills and journey into stitching have developed over many years beginning with a qualification in Fine art. A combination of taking my superannuation from nursing after 38 years in the NHS and joining a stitch book collective just before the pandemic was a turning point in my mixed media art journey. Having more time to play and create meant I had time to experiment with painting and stitch\, bringing both skills together to become innovative and creative in a new way. I am inspired by nature\, birds\, history and portraits and my work often features these. I continue to collage and paint and find this inspires my stitching.
